US President Trump has deployed approximately 7,000 Marines, sailors, and Army parachutists to the Middle East, threatening Iran with severe military action if it does not agree to a deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed for nearly a month.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated President Trump is "prepared to unleash hell" and will ensure Iran is "hit harder than they have ever been hit before" if they refuse to acknowledge military defeat. Iran rejected a 15-point peace proposal, instead demanding war reparations and asserting control over the crucial Strait of Hormuz.
The deployment includes the USS Tripoli and USS Boxer amphibious assault ships, carrying Marine Expeditionary Units, and soldiers from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. Speculation suggests potential land missions to reopen the strait or seize Iran’s Kharg Island fuel loading site.
This significant troop expansion follows an initial assault involving vast US air power and two aircraft carrier strike groups. President Trump previously indicated he has no reservations about committing ground troops if necessary.
