US-aligned Gulf states, led by Saudi Arabia, are moving towards direct military involvement in the conflict with Iran, driven by sustained attacks on regional energy infrastructure and escalating security threats, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Saudi Arabia has allowed US forces to use King Fahd Air Base, strengthening operational support and signaling deeper alignment with Washington. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is reportedly nearing a decision to enter the conflict directly, aiming to re-establish deterrence after repeated Iranian attacks.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is also intensifying pressure by shutting down institutions linked to Iranian interests, restricting Tehran’s access to foreign capital and trade channels. These actions follow Iran's increased pressure on the region, including attacks on critical infrastructure and threats to control the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy chokepoint.
Despite the risks of retaliation and potential shifts in US policy, Gulf states are narrowing their space for neutrality, indicating the conflict is entering a more dangerous phase of direct confrontation.
