F-15 Crash · Geopolitical Risk · Special Forces · US-Iran Conflict
A US F-15 fighter jet was shot down over Iran, resulting in one crew member rescued and a second missing, prompting US special forces to reportedly enter Iranian territory on a ground mission to locate and extract the downed airman.
In separate incidents, an F-15E fighter jet and an A-10 attack aircraft were hit by Iranian missiles. The New York Times reported the A-10 pilot safely steered the damaged aircraft into Kuwaiti airspace and was rescued.
Two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters dispatched for the F-15 search sustained minor damage and crew injuries from Iranian fire but returned safely. Iranian state media, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, broadcast footage of search activities and offered financial rewards for the missing American pilot's capture, while also calling on people not to mistreat the pilot.
Britain’s Daily Telegraph reported US special forces entered Iran on Friday night for the high-stakes recovery mission.
