Iran blocked ships in the Strait of Hormuz, reversing a cease-fire agreement just hours after its announcement, demanding up to $2 million per ship for passage and citing Israeli strikes in Lebanon, despite President Trump's insistence that Lebanon was not part of the deal.
Iran's embassy in Mumbai posted on X, citing Fars News Agency, that oil tankers would not be permitted passage due to Israeli strikes in Lebanon. President Trump told PBS News Hour that Israel's fight with Hezbollah in Lebanon is a "separate skirmish" not included in the US-Iran cease-fire.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated Iran's claims are "completely unacceptable" and demanded the Strait be reopened immediately, quickly, and safely. Iran also threatened to "destroy" any vessels attempting transit without permission, as heard in audio shared with the Wall Street Journal.
Israeli airstrikes in central Beirut killed 89 people and wounded 700, according to Lebanon's health ministry.
