US President Donald Trump paused strikes on Iran for five days, creating a brief de-escalation window, as Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey reportedly mediate indirect communication between Washington and Tehran to resolve the four-week-long conflict.
The diplomatic efforts involve foreign ministers from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey holding separate discussions with White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to an Axios report citing an unnamed US official. Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized the need to contain the conflict's broader effects.
Trump announced the halt on Truth Social, describing interactions with Iran as "very good and productive." Iran, however, dismissed claims of ongoing talks, with its Foreign Ministry suggesting Trump's remarks aim to buy time for US military strategy and ease pressure on energy markets.
