NAACP Sues xAI Over Unpermitted Memphis Turbines

The lawsuit, filed in the federal district court of the Northern District of Mississippi, seeks a declaration that xAI violated federal law, demands the cessation of turbine use, and requests financial penalties. xAI, an Elon Musk-founded AI startup now owned by SpaceX, uses these turbines to power its data centers for training Grok, its AI assistant.

While some AI companies like Oracle reportedly use gas generators, others such as Google, Meta, and Amazon have invested in nuclear energy to power their data centers.
