U.S. President Donald Trump announced a deal with Iran, signed by Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, will fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Friday, ending a four-month conflict and ensuring 60 days of toll-free passage for increased shipping traffic.
Trump made the announcement from Evian, France, during a G7 meeting, stating the agreement is expected to sharply increase shipping traffic through the critical oil route. U.S. officials confirmed the pact, clarifying that no sanctions relief or unfrozen assets for Iran will be released until Tehran fulfills its obligations.
Trump emphasized that "oil is plummeting and stocks rising" as a direct result of the deal, and Iran "will not have a nuclear weapon," with the agreement including "strong policing." A formal signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday, with the full text to be released afterward. Officials project a significant, gradual increase in Strait traffic, though not a return to normal within two weeks.
