The US-Israeli war on Iran, initiated on February 28, inadvertently led to a regime change "for the worse," resulting in radical new hard-line leaders, including Mojtaba Khamenei, taking power and increasing the Revolutionary Guard's dominance, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The conflict, which began with the US and Israel aiming to eliminate senior Iranian figures like Ali Khamenei to foster a more aligned government, instead created a power vacuum. This vacuum is now occupied by uncompromising hard-liners, who are unwilling to pursue political compromise either domestically or internationally.
The report highlights a future militarized Iran under a younger, hard-line leader, with the Revolutionary Guard playing an even more dominant role. Danny Citrinowicz, formerly head of Israeli military intelligence's Iran desk, states, "The war changed the regime -- and not in a good way," creating a reality worse than what Iranians faced before the war.
These hard-liners are energized by the conflict, believing it presages the return of a "Shiite Muslim messiah."
