American and Iranian negotiators established a new "deconfliction cell" for Lebanon and a 60-day communication line for the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to end military actions and ensure safe commercial vessel passage following high-level talks mediated by Qatar and Pakistan.
This agreement emerged from the first high-level talks held under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding at Switzerland’s Bürgenstock resort. The deconfliction cell involves the United States, Iran, and Lebanon to ensure adherence to the termination of military operations in Lebanon.
The 60-day communication line for the Strait of Hormuz aims to avoid incidents and miscommunication, ensuring safe passage for commercial vessels. Technical talks will continue between the countries throughout the week.
A "High Level Committee" of political leaders will oversee mediations, with a roadmap towards reaching a final deal within 60 days. This committee will address critical issues such as Tehran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, and mechanisms to monitor and enforce any eventual agreement, as stated in the joint statement.
