Cryptocurrency exchange FTX has expanded its services to include 24/7 tokenized equity trading, allowing users to buy fractional shares of high-value stocks such as Tesla, Amazon, and Apple.
This initiative aims to democratize access to equity markets, particularly for investors interested in high-cost shares. The offering is a result of a strategic partnership with German financial services firm CM-Equity, which custodies the underlying stocks and ensures compliance, and Switzerland-based Digital Assets AG (DAAG), a tokenization solutions provider.
FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried noted significant customer demand for this feature. While the tokenized shares are traded on FTX and redeemable for traditional stocks, the service will not be available in the U.S. or other restricted jurisdictions.
This move positions FTX alongside other platforms like Uphold and Robinhood that already offer fractional stock trading.
