Major League Baseball (MLB) established an official partnership with Polymarket and an integrity agreement with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), aiming to protect game integrity and leverage new revenue opportunities in the rapidly expanding prediction market sector, as announced by Commissioner Rob Manfred.
MLB's agreement with CFTC Chair Michael S. Selig ensures collaboration on integrity concerns, with both parties agreeing to share confidential information and meet regularly. This partnership grants Polymarket exclusive access to MLB logos and official league data from Sportradar, MLB’s global data distributor for prediction markets.
However, the American Gaming Association (AGA) President and CEO Bill Miller expressed skepticism, stating that a "multi-hundred million-dollar partnership" or CFTC memorandum does not legitimize an unlawful business model, asserting that sports betting falls under state and tribal regulation, not CFTC jurisdiction. Despite this, other leagues like the NHL and MLS have also partnered with Polymarket and Kalshi, indicating a growing trend in sports leagues embracing prediction markets for revenue and fan engagement.
