The Hennepin County Attorney's office in Minnesota is investigating over a dozen incidents involving federal immigration officials during a recent enforcement surge in the Twin Cities, dubbed "Operation Metro Surge." Prosecutor Mary Moriarty announced that her office is examining 17 cases, including allegations of misconduct by Border Patrol official Greg Bovino, who is known for aggressive tactics.

Specific incidents under scrutiny involve throwing a smoke canister at protesters and deploying chemical irritants near a high school during student hours. The investigation also includes the deaths of two individuals, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, during the operation.

Moriarty's office is collecting evidence and is prepared to sue the federal government if necessary to obtain requested information, emphasizing a commitment to transparency and accountability. The Department of Justice has opened a civil rights inquiry into one of the deaths, but has not found reason for such an investigation into the other, and the FBI has reportedly barred state investigators from accessing evidence in one case.
