Following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to strike down President Trump's global tariffs, a significant legal battle is unfolding as companies seek refunds for the billions paid.

At least 1,800 companies have filed lawsuits, with hundreds more expected, to recover funds from the government. The tariffs, which generated at least $130 billion over 10 months, were applied to over 301,000 importers.

While the administration's stance on refunds has been mixed, with President Trump expressing skepticism about prompt returns and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicating reliance on court orders, companies are pushing for swift action. The Court of International Trade is tasked with handling these cases, which are anticipated to be numerous and complex, potentially taking years to resolve.

Some companies are filing proactively to maximize their chances of recovery, while others are advised to wait for further guidance, highlighting the uncertainty and varied strategies in this extensive refund race.
