Russia launched its deadliest strike of the year, firing over 700 drones and missiles at Ukraine overnight, killing at least 18 Ukrainians and injuring scores across multiple cities, demonstrating Moscow's continued capacity for large-scale attacks.
The assault, which began Wednesday night and continued into early Thursday, resulted in nine deaths in Odessa, five in Dnipro, and four in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old boy. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated nearly 300 attack drones and 19 ballistic missiles were used, following previous waves of "shaheds." Ukraine intercepted 31 missiles and 636 drones, but 12 rockets and 20 UAVs struck 26 locations across the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba warned the death toll could rise, with over 50 injured in Kyiv, 23 in Odessa, and 36 in Dnipro. Zelensky highlighted Ukraine's shortage of Patriot air defense missiles, emphasizing Russia's ongoing ability to wage large-scale war.
Concurrently, a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia's Black Sea port of Tuapse caused a large fire at an oil refinery, killing two people and injuring seven.
