Rheinmetall AG and Boeing's Australian business finalized a deal to supply autonomous MQ-28 Ghost Bat combat aircraft to the German armed forces, bolstering Germany's airspace capabilities and securing hundreds of millions of euros in revenue for Rheinmetall by 2029.
Rheinmetall will serve as the system manager for the combat aircraft, overseeing its integration into the German military. The MQ-28 Ghost Bat was originally developed for the Royal Australian Air Force and other allied nations.
Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG, stated the partnership ensures the MQ-28 is optimally tailored to the Bundeswehr's specific requirements. Furthermore, Rheinmetall will establish a digital environment for engineers in both Germany and Australia to facilitate testing of new software and innovations.
Dr. Brendan Nelson, President of Boeing Global, emphasized the collaboration as a partnership between Germany and Australia, highlighting their shared strategy for integrating collaborative combat aircraft into their respective air forces.
