Jeanine Pirro, current U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, is positioning herself to replace Pam Bondi as U.S. Attorney General, according to CNN’s Paula Reid, following Pirro's defiant press conference regarding a blocked Federal Reserve investigation.
Reid states current Attorney General Pam Bondi is "on thin ice" with the White House and President Donald Trump, citing her handling of Jeffrey Epstein files and Trump's tendency to dismiss Cabinet members who lose Republican support. Pirro's recent actions, including scolding reporters after U.S. District Judge James Boasberg blocked her subpoenas in an investigation of Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell, are interpreted as an "audition" for the top Justice Department role.
Judge Boasberg ruled Pirro's subpoenas against the Federal Reserve were for an improper purpose, aiming to "harass and pressure Powell" into resignation or compliance. Pirro called the judge's decision "outrageous," asserting her office's right to investigate the Federal Reserve's multibillion-dollar D.C. headquarters renovation.
Despite the speculation, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson maintains President Trump has "full faith" in Attorney General Bondi, publicly supporting her and her efforts to implement the President's law and order agenda. This situation highlights ongoing political maneuvering within the administration.
