First Lady Melania Trump publicly denied any ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and knowledge of his crimes, calling accusations "completely false" and demanding Congress hold a public hearing for Epstein's victims to testify, reigniting a controversy her husband's administration sought to move past.
Melania Trump delivered an "extraordinary statement" at the White House, asserting "unfound and baseless lies" link her to Epstein, claiming "individuals and entities looking to cause damage to my good name" are financially and politically motivated. The statement, made without taking questions, pushes the Epstein story back into the political spotlight, despite President Donald Trump's efforts to move on.
The First Lady's office confirmed the West Wing was aware of her statement. Democrats and some Republicans, including Rep.
Robert Garcia and former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, supported her call for a congressional hearing, while Rep.
Thomas Massie focused on the Justice Department's role. Melania Trump clarified she was not friends with Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell, describing an email to Maxwell as "trivial correspondence." She denied Epstein introduced her to Donald Trump, stating they met in 1998.
This comes after the Justice Department's limited release of documents under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, with more documents still under review.
