Apple has introduced the MacBook Neo, an entry-level laptop priced at $599/£599, making it the company's most affordable MacBook and significantly undercutting the MacBook Air by $500.
This strategic move aims to attract new users into Apple's ecosystem, particularly those deterred by higher price points. To achieve this aggressive pricing, the Neo incorporates an older A18 Pro chip (from the iPhone 16 Pro), 8GB of unified memory, and a base 256GB SSD, with a 512GB SSD and Touch ID available in a $699 model.
Connectivity is limited to one USB-C 3 and one USB-C 2 port, lacking MagSafe. Despite these compromises, it features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, 1080p FaceTime HD camera, and up to 16 hours of battery life.
The product's availability for pre-order with a two-unit limit suggests high anticipated demand.
