US officials and President Donald Trump warn that war with Iran could resume with greater intensity as Iran continues to block the strategic Strait of Hormuz, demanding major concessions the US is unlikely to grant, jeopardizing planned negotiations in Pakistan.
The Wall Street Journal reported that senior US administration advisers express significant concern over Iran's refusal to reopen the Strait without substantial US concessions. President Trump explicitly threatened renewed hostilities if the "real agreement" is not fully implemented, specifically demanding the Strait of Hormuz be open and safe, and Iran obtain "NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS." Despite Trump's earlier announcement of a temporary two-week ceasefire conditioned on the Strait's reopening, Iran maintains the waterway is closed, citing alleged Israeli strikes in Lebanon, a drone entering Iranian territory, and US statements denying Iran's right to uranium enrichment as violations.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated these violations make negotiations "unreasonable." Vice President JD Vance clarified that Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire and indicated Israel is attempting to de-escalate in Lebanon to facilitate talks. Trump affirmed US military presence will remain in the region until the agreement is fully carried out, threatening a "bigger, and better, and stronger" conflict if it fails.
