Amazon Delivery · E-Commerce Logistics · Prime Membership · Retail Competition
Amazon has significantly expanded its expedited delivery services across the U.S., introducing new paid options for 1-hour and 3-hour delivery.
Customers in over 2,000 cities and towns can now access 3-hour delivery for a selection of 90,000 items, costing Prime members $4.99 and non-members $14.99. The even faster 1-hour service is available in hundreds of metropolitan and smaller cities, priced at $9.99 for Prime members and $19.99 for non-members.
This initiative builds on Amazon's long-standing Prime program, which began in 2005 with free two-day shipping, and now offers free same-day or next-day delivery on tens of millions of products. The company attributes its enhanced speed to investments in robotics, artificial intelligence, and a regionalized U.S. delivery network.
This strategic move aims to further monetize Amazon's extensive logistics infrastructure, enhance the value proposition of Prime membership, and maintain a competitive edge against rivals like Walmart, which also prioritizes rapid delivery services.
