President Trump publicly criticized State Farm and other insurance providers, accusing them of abandoning Southern California homeowners devastated by last year's wildfires, and tasked Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin with producing a report on company responses.
Trump, via a Truth Social post, labeled these companies "horrendous" for failing policyholders despite years of faithful premium payments. He stated the government is "looking into this matter as we speak" and urged State Farm and others to "get their act together" and treat people fairly.
This action follows Trump's ongoing dispute with California leadership, including Governor Gavin Newsom, whom he has repeatedly blamed for slow rebuilding efforts and the destructive impact of wildfires. Trump claims state environmental policies, such as water restrictions, hindered firefighting, while failed permitting and local bureaucracy slowed reconstruction.
In January, Trump issued an executive order aimed at fast-tracking Los Angeles' rebuilding a year after the Pacific Palisades and Eaton fires.
