OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is actively seeking additional financial support from top investor Microsoft to fund the company's ambitious research into "superintelligence" and the development of Artificial General Intelligence, following Microsoft's earlier $10 billion investment.
Altman told The Financial Times that the partnership with Microsoft is "working really well" and he anticipates "to raise a lot more over time" to acquire the necessary computing power. OpenAI's vision is to create Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which IBM describes as human-level intelligence with self-aware consciousness, problem-solving, learning, and future planning capabilities.
OpenAI also develops autonomous agents capable of performing tasks such as making payments, sending emails, and filing claims, which Altman states will generate significant business value. On its website, OpenAI acknowledges superintelligence could be humanity's most impactful technology, solving major global problems, but also warns of potential dangers, including human disempowerment or extinction.
OpenAI is also developing the next version of ChatGPT, though a release date is not revealed.
