Mistral AI, a prominent French artificial intelligence company, has completed its first acquisition, purchasing Paris-based serverless cloud provider Koyeb.
This strategic move aims to significantly enhance Mistral's compute infrastructure and bolster its growing portfolio of AI services. The deal includes Koyeb's 13 employees and three co-founders joining Mistral's engineering team by March 2026.
Koyeb's serverless platform is designed to efficiently run and scale AI applications, supporting Mistral's existing environments, optimizing GPU usage, and improving model deployment. This acquisition is part of Mistral's broader strategy of vertical integration and substantial infrastructure investments, including a targeted $1 billion in revenue by 2026 and a $1.4 billion investment in Swedish data centers.
The company seeks to reduce dependencies on third-party cloud providers and compete more effectively with US AI giants like OpenAI and Anthropic, signaling a potential trend of further acquisitions to meet short-term infrastructure needs.
