EV Expansion · Lucid Motors · Market Strategy · Midsize Platform
Lucid Motors detailed its critical midsize EV expansion strategy at its Investor Day, naming the first two models, Cosmos and Earth, and teasing a third.
These vehicles target distinct buyer profiles—"upscale nurturers," "trendsetting achievers," and "active explorers"—aiming to capture up to 50% of the EV segment. Combined with the Air and Gravity, Lucid claims its full lineup will address 60% of the electric vehicle market.
While competitive positioning against rivals like Tesla Model Y, Porsche Macan, and Rivian R2 was outlined, concrete product details such as pricing, specifications, or visual designs were notably absent. The midsize platform is slated for late 2026 production, with Cosmos production "by year's end" (2026).
The company also announced significant cost reduction targets—25% for Gravity BOM in 2025 and 30-40% unit cost reduction by 2028—and is re-evaluating its supply chain. Despite these strategic revelations, the lack of immediate volume impact and tangible product reveals led to a modest pre-market share decline.
