US Vice President JD Vance will travel to Pakistan for critical Iran negotiations, confirmed by a White House official to Anadolu, despite President Donald Trump's earlier public statements that security concerns would prevent his attendance.
Special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will accompany Vance to Islamabad. President Trump initially informed ABC News that Vance would not attend due to Secret Service concerns regarding short-notice security arrangements.
However, ABC News, Axios, and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright subsequently reported Vance would lead the delegation, contradicting Trump. Meetings are scheduled for Tuesday in Islamabad, potentially extending into Wednesday, as Trump told Fox News.
Vance previously led an earlier round of negotiations that concluded without an agreement. Trump issued a stark warning Sunday, stating that if Iran does not sign the proposed "very simple deal," the "whole country is getting blown up," emphasizing it as Iran's "last chance."
