The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is planning to implement flight caps at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport this summer due to concerns about operational capacity and potential delays, mirroring issues seen at Newark Liberty International Airport last year.
The FAA's decision stems from a significant increase in scheduled flights by United and American Airlines, pushing O'Hare beyond its operational limits. The agency proposes limiting daily operations to approximately 2,800, a reduction from the 3,080 flights currently scheduled on peak days and an increase from last summer's peak of 2,680.
Meetings are scheduled to discuss these congestion concerns and aim to reduce overscheduling and flight delays. Both American and United Airlines have issued statements expressing a commitment to collaboration and ensuring safe operations.
