Cybercab · Robotaxi · Tesla · Trademark Dispute
Tesla is embroiled in a legal battle with French beverage company UniBev over the 'Cybercab' trademark, crucial for its upcoming robotaxi service.
UniBev registered the name with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) shortly after Tesla's 'We, Robot' unveiling event, along with other Tesla-related trademarks like 'Teslaquila' and 'Cyberquad.' Tesla views this as trademark squatting and an attempt at extortion, filing an opposition with the USPTO Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). The automaker asserts its prior use of the 'Cyber' prefix in its vehicle lineup, such as the Cybertruck, and the widespread public awareness of its Cybercab plans.
UniBev has 60 days to respond to Tesla's opposition, failing which the trademark could be reassigned to Tesla. This resolution is vital as Tesla plans mass production of the Cybercab robotaxi by April 2026, aiming for customer deliveries before 2027, with a target price of $30K or less.
