An airstrike attributed to Pakistan on a drug rehabilitation facility in Kabul, Afghanistan, has reportedly killed at least 400 people and injured 250, according to Afghan officials.
The Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital, a 2,000-bed facility, was allegedly hit around 9:00 p.m. on Monday.
Afghan government Deputy Spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat condemned the attack, calling it a "crime against humanity" and accusing Pakistan of violating Afghanistan’s airspace. In response, Pakistan's Information Ministry denied targeting civilians, asserting its forces precisely struck "military installations and terrorist support infrastructure" belonging to the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij in Kabul and Nangarhar province.
This incident marks a severe escalation in already deteriorating relations between the two nations, following increased border tensions last month. Prior cross-border clashes since late February had already resulted in 107 fatalities, including soldiers and civilians on both sides, with UN data also reporting significant civilian casualties in the region.
The latest attack significantly heightens geopolitical risks and humanitarian concerns in South Asia.
