Lufthansa is bracing for a significant operational disruption as both its pilots, represented by the VC union, and cabin crew, under the UFO union, have announced a coordinated one-day strike for Thursday.
The walkout, scheduled from 00:01 am to 11:59 pm local time, will impact all flights departing from German airports operated by Lufthansa's core brand and its cargo division, Lufthansa Cargo, likely grounding hundreds of flights. The pilot union, representing approximately 4,800 employees, is demanding increased employer contributions to occupational pensions, a request Lufthansa management has rejected due to high costs and declining profits.
Separately, the UFO cabin crew union is conducting a "warning strike" to push for collective agreements, citing concerns over 800 jobs threatened by the company's current corporate strategy, affecting both the main operation and regional subsidiary Cityline. This dual-front labor action signals escalating tensions and will undoubtedly lead to immediate revenue loss and customer dissatisfaction for the airline.
