Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, 76, received treatment for dehydration at a Philadelphia hospital in March after feeling lightheaded at a Federalist Society dinner, but was not admitted and returned home the same night without complications, sources told Fox News.
The previously undisclosed incident occurred on March 20, when Justice Alito was in Philadelphia for a Federalist Society event honoring his jurisprudence. He attended a pre-dinner reception and an evening dinner with federal judges and former clerks.
Earlier that day, the Supreme Court released opinions, and Alito attended the court’s closed-door conference with colleagues. His security detail recommended the precautionary hospital visit after he reported feeling lightheaded.
Two sources present at the dinner confirmed there was no drama and Alito did not faint. He was treated for dehydration and returned home without incident, as he and his wife were planning to drive back to Northern Virginia.
Justice Alito has since been seen on the bench and appeared normal, with no issues noted in the days following the incident. He turned 76 on Wednesday and observers noted he looked his usual self.
Alito was nominated to the Supreme Court in 2005 by President George W. Bush and confirmed in 2006.
