Hyundai Motor Company has recalled approximately 68,500 2026 Palisade SUVs in Canada and the United States and halted sales of specific trims after a two-year-old girl died in Ohio due to a power seat defect.
The defect prevents the second- and third-row power seats from detecting contact with an occupant or object as intended. The recall specifically impacts the 2026 Hyundai Palisade Limited and Calligraphy trims, with approximately 8,000 vehicles affected in Canada and over 60,000 in the U.S. Hyundai expressed its deepest sympathies to the family and confirmed the March 7 incident is under investigation.
The automaker is developing an interim over-the-air software update, expected by the end of March, to enhance the system’s response and introduce additional operating safeguards. Until a full remedy is available, Hyundai is offering customers rental vehicles.
The company urges caution when operating power seat functions, advising owners to ensure no person or object is in the seat or folding area.
