Ford recalled over 1.39 million F-150 trucks from model years 2015-2017 due to a transmission issue that causes unexpected downshifting into second gear, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The problem stems from a loss of signal between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module. Dealers will update the powertrain control module software at no cost to owners.
Ford will notify owners by mail after April 27, with a second letter detailing the repair availability expected in July. Owners can contact Ford directly at 866-436-7332, referencing internal recall number 26S28, or check their vehicle identification numbers on the NHTSA website for more information.
