MacKenzie Scott · Philanthropy · Social Impact · Wealth Distribution
MacKenzie Scott, the former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has announced a substantial philanthropic commitment, distributing $2.7 billion to 286 organizations.
Alongside her husband, Dan Jewett, Scott worked with researchers and advisors to identify "underfunded and overlooked" groups, intending the donations as a "signal of trust and encouragement." This initiative builds on her previous $6 billion in donations made in 2020, which supported COVID-19 relief, gender equity, and educational institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Scott, whose wealth is estimated at $60 billion from her Amazon stake, explicitly stated her concern regarding the concentration of wealth and her aim to use her fortune to address "systems in need of change." The diverse recipients include organizations focused on arts, child advocacy, global development, civil rights, and anti-slavery efforts.
