Georgia Senate Race · Jon Ossoff · Mike Collins · Republican Primary
Rep.
Mike Collins (R-Ga.) secured victory in the Georgia Senate GOP runoff against former football coach Derek Dooley, winning 55% of the electorate to Dooley's 45%, setting up a general election challenge against incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff on November 3.
The Associated Press called the race at 8:37 p.m. ET.
Republicans view this contest as a critical pickup opportunity to expand their current 53-47 Senate majority. However, the GOP faces economic headwinds and Ossoff commands a substantial $32 million campaign war chest.
President Trump endorsed Collins, referring to him as "'MAGA' Mike Collins" and criticizing Dooley's residency and voting record, while popular Peach State Gov. Brian Kemp had backed Dooley.
Collins, who co-authored the Laken Riley Act, previously led the May 19 primary with 40% of the vote against Dooley's 30% and Rep. Buddy Carter's 25%.
