China's Ministry of Commerce placed 10 US industrial suppliers on its export control list, and its Ministry of Finance barred 46 US companies, primarily defense contractors, from government procurement projects, in direct retaliation for the Pentagon adding Chinese technology firms to its 1260H blacklist.
These actions by China target a total of 56 US entities, including any affiliated foreign-funded entities. The move follows the Pentagon's recent update to its 1260H list, which prohibits the US Department of Defense from direct contracts with listed companies starting June 30, with indirect procurement restrictions effective in 2027.
Analysts characterize Beijing's countermeasures as largely symbolic, noting that most targeted US companies have minimal business exposure in China, suggesting the actions are not a significant escalation in US-China relations. Chinese officials stated these measures protect their companies' rights and serve as a model for managing mild US escalation while maintaining overall relationship stability, referencing a recent Trump-Xi summit.
