Canada is ditching its electric-vehicle sales mandate and replacing it with more stringent tailpipe-emissions standards for automobiles that officials project will spur carbon reduction equal to 75% of EV sales by 2035.
Chinese automakers are shifting their focus overseas to offset intensifying competition and soft consumption at home.
The Dearborn, Mich., carmaker said that it has sold a total of 135,362 vehicles in the U.S. last month, a 5.3% decline over the prior-year period.
The move could escalate tension between Ottawa and the automakers, who have scaled back production in the country.
