Transport Canada has certified Gulfstream's G500 and G600 business jets, a move that follows threats from U.S. President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on Canadian aircraft and decertify Canadian-made planes.
Trump had accused Canada of illegally refusing to certify these Gulfstream models, even though they were under review. His administration had threatened a 50% tariff on Canadian aircraft and specifically mentioned Bombardier jets.
Trump also referenced Gulfstream's G700 and G800 models, which are still undergoing review. This situation highlights the competitive landscape between Bombardier and Gulfstream in the business jet market and echoes past trade disputes, such as the tariff imposed on Bombardier's C Series aircraft during Trump's first term.
