NASA's Artemis II crew, including Christina Cooke, Jeremy Hanson, Victor Glover, and Commander Reid Wiseman, successfully completed their ten-day journey around the Moon, splashing down safely in the Pacific Ocean on Friday night and emerging from the Orion capsule.
The crew is undergoing medical evaluations before returning to Houston, while the Orion capsule will be transported to Kennedy Space Center for detailed inspection. During re-entry, the crew experienced a six-minute communication blackout, which NASA officials reassured families was a normal part of the process.
A critical focus of post-splashdown analysis is the heat shield, with divers taking initial photos and two heat shield experts aboard the recovery ship for immediate assessment. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman praised the crew for completing a "perfect mission," highlighting their professionalism and role as "ambassadors from humanity to the stars." The successful return marks a significant milestone for NASA's deep-space exploration program.
