Space-based solar energy company Aetherflux, led by co-founder and CEO Baiju Bhatt, announced its "Galactic Brain" project, targeting a Q1 2027 launch to perform AI data center compute from space, addressing cooling and energy concerns.
This initiative builds on Aetherflux's core thesis of abundant, continuous solar power in space, which the company initially pursued for beaming energy to contested environments on Earth. Aetherflux, approximately one and a half years old, has a growing team of 35-40 people and is preparing two satellites for launch next year, with the first assembly completing in June.
CEO Bhatt, also a co-founder of Robinhood Markets (HOOD), emphasizes the strategic imperative for the United States to leverage its advantage in space access to gain an edge in energy, crucial for the global race in AI and AGI development. Yahoo Finance Video and Brian Sozzi reported on this development, with Reddit (RDDT) co-founder Alexis Ohanian also citing space-based data centers as a future innovation.
